THE BRISTLE COLLECTION
With THE BRISTLE COLLECTION, my focus turns to the brush—an object we handle daily but rarely truly notice.
By reviving the fading tradition of brush making, I apply this craft on a new scale. The brush evokes movement and action, symbolizes cleaning, and sweeps away the old to make way for the new. Through a repetitive process, it becomes clear that beauty emerges from time, patience, and care. Though individually fragile, the fibres gain strength in their multitude.
The result is a family of interior objects that balance function and form, serving as pedestals, seating, side tables, or coffee tables.
The fibers used are natural materials such as reed or the tough fibers of palm leaves and stems. Each work is handcrafted from black-stained oak and natural fibers, adding texture and movement. The bristles are set by hand and fixed with a wooden wedge, highlighting precision and craftsmanship.
“During my research into the craft of brush-making, I came across a stock of baleen — material once used in brushes, taken from the plates of baleen whales. This moment became the starting point to realise two limited-edition pieces that draw attention to the history and impact of whaling.” A portion of the proceeds from these works is donated to Sea Shepherd, whose mission is to protect and preserve the oceans and marine life, including whales.
